Interesting series chronicling the journey of the University of California Los Angeles’ women’s basketball team on its road to protesting during the national anthem. While I applaud the desire to make a statement which challenges the endemic systemic racism which exists in America, the inclusion of the concerns of those “uncomfortable” with not standing is disappointing. I’ve said several times, participation in the national anthem is an individual act. That some members of the team may not have wanted to kneel should have been neither here nor there. Still, the effort by Kelli Hayes to organize the team was a positive one.
