• Stanley alleged that the principal, Gwendolyn Thomas, threatened to cancel the subsequent game if Stanley participated in the national anthem protest against racism.
• Ms. Thomas required that any subsequent protest take place behind the stands, off the football field. Stanley protested the next week as well.

• The Bulls’ head coach, Mr. Barber, was suspended for the remainder of the season after most of the team and coaches knelt during the national anthem the following week. Several players left the team in protest.
• The season was subsequently cancelled as the executive board forfeited the remaining games.
• In June 2017, NFL Players donated $20,000 of equipment to the team, which had been reorganized as the Southeast Texas Oilers, for its inaugural season.

• One coach, who later resigned, stated that the kneeling was inadvertent; that a coach knelt to fix equipment and the entire team simply followed suit.

• The coach, Marcus Burkley, alleged that the officials unfairly penalized his team, and the concessionaires refused to serve his team and their family members.
• Coach Burkley has called for an independent investigation, and a concerned citizen group mobilized to attend the 23 October game and kneel in solidarity with the team.
