NFL Owner Walks Back Comments on Forcing Players to Stand For the Anthem

Stephen Ross, owner of the Miami Dolphins, was reported to have stated that all of his players would have to stand during the national anthem this upcoming football season; however, Ross provided a clarification the following day. Ross stated “I have no intention of forcing our players to stand during the anthem, and I regret that my comments have been misconstrued,” Ross told the newspaper. “I’m passionate about the cause of social justice and I feel that kneeling is an ineffective tactic that alienates more people than it enlists.” The Miami Dolphins Players, Kenny Stills, Michael Thomas, and Julius Thomas knelt or remained in the tunnel during the national anthem last season.
