Article below by Amnesty staff at amnesty.org. Colin Kaepernick was awarded the Amnesty International 2018 Ambassador of Conscience honor. It is another in a growing list of honorifics that appropriately recognize the courage, integrity, principles, activism, and humanitarianism of Colin Kaepernick; these items are embodied in not only his bold protests against racism, but his undeniable dedication to Black empowerment and uplift with his Million Dollar Pledge. These honorifics also highlight the racism and inappropriate treatment the NFL is exhibiting in refusing to bring this man onto a roster. Further, Kaepernick continues to be unapologetic in his advocacy for Black people when (accurately) referring during his acceptance speech to the police sanctioned killings as “lawful lynchings.”
What is heartening is that unlike many activist athletes of times past, Colin is being given his credit during the height of his activism. As the old folks say, give me my flowers when I am living. It appears the national and international community are doing just that for a well deserving leader and beacon of what in truth being an American should reflect.
Athlete and inspiring activist Colin Kaepernick has been honoured with Amnesty International’s Ambassador of Conscience Award for 2018, the human rights organization announced today.
The award was officially presented at a ceremony in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on 21 April 2018, to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the opening of Amnesty International’s national section in the country.
