As the saying goes, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Reports are emerging that the NFL will not implement its draconian, plantation mentality national anthem policy. The NFL initially placed disciplinary measures on hold, in agreement with the NFLPA, following the leaking of the Miami Dolphins memo which purported to allow up to a four game suspension for refusing to stand for the national anthem. Now it seems that they will leave the issue up to the teams, with the core measure of the option to remain off of the field still a loose formality. It is, for all intents and purposes, a return to the pre-policy days. So in Dallas, Jerry “What’s Your Name Boy” Jones’ “toe on the line” stance will remain in effect, buoyed by his shamefully compliant quarterback and star running back. What will be interesting to see is the backlash and gnashing of teeth that will predictably ensue by the “‘merica” crowd, POTUS, and those who believe that others’ right to peacefully protesting racial inequality has to be conducted on their terms. Classic white entitlement.
